Pizero Design founder Michele Cerreta was interviewed today by the italian newspapers “La Nazione”, “Il Giorno”, “Il Resto del Carlino”.

The interview is titled “The aspiring notary  who made Nokia fall in love – he’s a wizard of mobile phone graphics”

Here is a quick translation of the intreview. I tried to keep it close to the original, but it’s not easy!

“In the end it was simple. I just followed my creativity and my passion for design, computers and mobile phones. It all began as a game, with a small website and blog, until one day I received a phone call from finland: it was Nokia…”

Michele Cerreta, 27 years, graduated from the law school in Pisa, has an office inside his bedroom. [...] Under the name of “Pizero”, this brilliant guy has reached the unbelievable numer of 20 million downloads from 195 countries in the world.

Q.- What it feels like to be called by a giant like Nokia?

A.- Well, it was really thrilling. At first, I didn’t believe it was real. But in fact my website was quite a success with over 3000 downloads each day.

Q.- Your story reminds in some way one of those big american companies, that were started in a garage. Apple, for example?

A.- I don’t think I can compare with any of these giants. But I, too, started my company from zero, and today I have a nice revenue from it. But I’m still studying to become a lawyer and a notary. Then we will see what happens…

Q. – But these are hard times as the economic crysis spreads worldwide. it’s not easy to find a success story like yours nowadays. You have a nice revenue?

A.- Surely I can’t complain, but it’s not stellar. Most of my apps are free, and are downloaded by million of people, but sales are much more limited. This activity gives me anyw

ay an huge satisfation. And I had the pleasure to work for some very important clients in the last years, but I can’t give more details on this.

Q.- What is exactly your work about?

A. – I design icons, wallpapers, themes. I started with Nokia, now I have extended my business to more complex apps for Apple, Android, Windows Phone, Blackberry.

Q.- Why do you think people like your creations?

A.- I don’t know exactly, but I think that creativity and fantasy, coupled with ease of use is the key to success. My 2 most downloaded themes  were each downloaded by 3,5 million people all over the world.

Q.- How much time to you spend in front of  your pc?

A.- Usually four hours a day (but sometimes I have spent entire nights on my pc).  I study  for the rest of the day, but I also work at the law firm sometimes, because I want to become a Notary.

Q.- Are you sure you want it?

A.- In fact, not that sure. I really enjoy my work and I dream in future to  make it  a full time job. But for this, I would need an investor to bring the funds to turn my small business into a big one.
